Job Role: Care Home Chef Opportunities

Times: Monday to Sunday – Days

Flexible working hours so you can choose your working rota each week, the working hours will vary from site to site and may result in more/less work depending on your flexibility. If you are working within schools or nurseries, your shift times will be anything from 7/8 am until 2/3 pm. For any care homes or Nursing homes, the start times will be from 6/7 am and finish times 4/5 pm.

Pay Rate: Salary – £15.50 per hour to £17.00 per hour plus Bank Holiday enhancements

Location: Enfield and surrounding areas

We are currently seeking to recruit several Enhanced DBS Chefs and Cooks in and around Hertfordshire to work within care homes, retirement villages, schools, and nurseries. You will be expected to assist with any sickness, both short-term and long-term, as both full-time and part-time positions are available.

Care home chef jobs involve preparing meals for residents and patients, ensuring they are nutritious, delicious, and tailored to meet specific dietary needs.

The essential skills required include culinary expertise, time management, creativity, and a strong understanding of dietary requirements. Communication and teamwork are also crucial in a care home setting.

Your primary duties will be:

  • Work within as part of a team
  • Putting away stock and deliveries
  • Food orders, dependent on the role you are placed into, i.e., head chef/chef manager.
  • Preparation of food
  • Preparation of food, including a variety of diets which include texture diets, blended meals, and modified meals
  • Prepping/tidying areas of the kitchen, including pot washing
  • Adhering to all relevant health and safety requirements
  • Cooking nutritious food within the requirements
  • Ensure a clean-as-you-go policy is being operated at all times
  • Possibly serving food and/or operating a till

Requirements and skills:

  • You will be qualified within professional cookery to City & Guilds 706/1, 706/2 or equivalent
  • Level 2 food hygiene certificate within the last 3 years and up-to-date allergens certificates
  • You will have at least a minimum of six (6) months of experience working as a chef
  • Experience working within schools and care homes as a chef or a cook
  • You will have your own chef whites and knives
  • Flexibility in shift patterns, including weekends preferred but not essential
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Must have a passion for food and experience with the IDDSI framework to prepare and cook texture diets 
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Due to some locations, a full UK driving license is required along with own access to a vehicle
  • If you are limited to public transport, we will only send you to places that have public transport links and provide you with all the information you will need to get there

Successful applicants will be required to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring check (DBS), which is necessary due to the nature of this role. If you already have the correct DBS check and it is registered on the DBS update service, you will not need to complete another DBS check.

Please note: To be able to work within this environment, you must have an enhanced DBS check covering Adult, Child, or Adult & Child workforce, within the last 12 months or on the DBS update service.

If you do not have a DBS check or an appropriate DBS check, you must be willing to apply for one and provide it to us. (This will be at a cost).
